Watkins Skylark Restoration Project

After graduating the college, I still have not found the job yet and I don't have much things to do besides looking for one. So I decided to volunteer some hours. Kansas Aviation Museum is one of my favorite places I visit. I

 

What was the Skylark?

Watkins Skylark was produced at Watkins Aircraft Co, of Wichita, KS. The location of the company was on Douglas near the East High School.

There are several variant. On the record, there was a prototype, SL-1 and SL-2.

The four photos shown below is the exact aircraft which we are trying to restore.

What we have today?

It is unknown how many Skylarks were produced or sold, but sales of 6 aircraft had been confirmed before the company went bankrupt. Some components from one of the aircraft NC102V has been recovered form Wellington Airport. The museum could not provide further information but assumed that this aircraft has been wrecked. The picture shown below is the components of the aircraft left today.

While the empennage components are stored indoor, the wings were at outdoor. Therefore it is not possible to see the whole thing
